Falzarego pass

During the first World War, the Italians and Austrians fought high in the mountains, digging tunnels to try to get under/over/through to the opposite side.  It’s phenomenal.  Truly, it’s one of those things that can’t be described in words, or appreciated in photographs, especially photographs taken with one hand while grasping very tightly a child in the other!  I cannot fathom what it was like for these men to be so incredibly high, blasting through the rock, surviving on a mountain.  Amazing.
